Camping InformationCamping information in Captains Flat Welcome The Captains Flat Area Section 355 Committee welcomes you to Captains Flat and hope you enjoy your stay here. Local residents on behalf of Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council run the Captains Flat Area Section 355 Committee. We're responsible for the management of the Wilkins Memorial Park and the Captains Flat Community Hall. This means that control of booking the hall, oval, cricket pitch and camping is in local hands. Fees and charges There's no set fee to camp in Captains Flat, but if you'd like to donate, you can! To donate, you can either: · leave an envelope with "Camping Donation" in the mailbox of the Men's Shed opposite the camping area · Direct deposit to: o NAME: Captains Flat Area Section 355 Committee o BANK: Bendigo Bank o BSB:633 000 o ACCOUNT NUMBER: 1444 462 91 Any donation will help us achieve our goals to improve the facilities listed below. Facilities Captains Flat has the following facilities:
Camping information When camping in Captains Flat, please note all of the following: · Generators - these are permitted to be used, though should be used in a considerate manner with minimal disruption to other campers/residences. We ask that generators only be used between 8am - 8pm. · Toilets and showers - toilets and showersare provided, please leave these facilities clean and tidy for the next user. Note: if you have your own toilet, the toilet waste or grey water is NOT to be disposed of on the ground, near the river or in bushland. · Water - water onsite is suitable for drinking. Water to refill tanks can be accessed in the carpark. · Fires - personal comfort fires are not permitted. · Dogs - dogs are welcome, though must be on leash at all times. Please pick up and dispose of all droppings appropriately. · Valuables - any valuables left unattended at your campsite are at your own risk. Council does not accept responsibility for loss or damage. · COVID-19- please observe, and encourage observing of, social distancing (1.5-meter rule) and facilitate good hand and respiratory hygiene, as much as possible. · Rubbish - leave no trace of your visit - please take all your rubbish with you and leave all facilities clean and tidy for the next user.
Where to set up camp You can set up your campsite in the red sections marked on the below map (please don't set up in or around the football field or drive on it):
It's also strongly recommended that you do not camp directly under the large trees. These trees are susceptible to dropping large branches at any time, especially during extended dry periods. These limbs can be extremely large and may endanger your safety or life should they fall on your campsite.
What to see and do in Captains Flat Captains Flat has the following attractions and places to visit: · Miners Memorial - a memorial dedicated to the miners, located in the park · War Memorial - situated on north east the corner of the park · Mine lookout - located on the top of the hill in Captains Flat · Men’s Shed - located opposite the park, open weekends for coffee and cakes & Bacon and Egg rolls · Neverwhere Gallery - located opposite the Captains Flat Hotel, Local Post Office and gift shop · The Captains Flat RSL & Citizens Bowling Club - open 7 days, meals provided on some days · Captains Flat Hotel - the Captains Flat Hotel houses the second longest bar in the southern hemisphere; will reopen soon · Captains Flat Swimming Pool - located in the park (Note: only open from October to March).
